Book Blogger Confessions #9

Here's what it's all about: "Started in January 2012, by Karen - For What It's Worth & Tiger - Tiger's All Consuming Media & now co-hosted with my good friend Pam from Midnyte reader, Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers "confess" and vent about blogging/bookish topics. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions.

Just keep it respectful - no bashing authors or other bloggers!"

August 1st Topic: Vlogging. Have you ever vlogged (video blogging)? Why or why not? What do think makes for an interesting vlog? How does a book review vlog compare to a written review in your opinion? What are few of your favorite book review/author vlogs? (Source: Amy Bookworm)
I have (sadly) never vlogged. I think I've always been to shy or embarrassed (what if someone walked in while I was filming!?). Plus, since none of my friends (or enemies) read, I'm always afraid that they'll somehow stumble upon a video of mine and judge me for it.
The judgement...I feel it.
Although I would seriously love to try it. I would just need to figure out how to get comfortable in front of a camera and also how to edit.
I have look for two things in vlogs. I either like really funny and out there/crazy vlogging (like: https://www.youtube.com/user/polandbananasBOOKS) or really calm and collected vloggers (like: https://www.youtube.com/user/rinceyreads). Or somewhere in the middle! (Like: https://www.youtube.com/user/ChapterChicks)
Okay so I've debated the whole vlog review vs. written review and I go back and forth. Obviously it takes a lot of time to edit and film a video, but it also takes a lot of thought and time to put together a blog post. I've always felt that with written reviews you have to really know what to say and write and make a good post unlike videos where you can be like "So yeah, this book was good. Um it was about blah blah blah..." Sometimes I think "wow, us bloggers work a lot harder than vloggers" but that's not true if you think about all the lighting, filming, editing, etc. that vloggers have to think about and put up with. While we just sit in the dark, and type to our little hearts content.
I've shared a few of my favorites above but I also like:

Bookshelf Tour!

Hey everyone!
So I finally decided to do a bookshelf tour (I've been asked to do it a couple of times on my Instagram and now I've finally gotten around to it!).
Anyways, it's pretty long since I do take out each book and show you the cover. So if you have time to spare please check it out, it did take me a little while to complete this and let's just say it was difficult wasn't easy. But let me assure you that it was totally worth it and I really enjoyed making the video!
Couple of things to keep in mind: I am in no way trying to brag by posting this video. This is only to give you a better idea of what I have and have not read yet, and what might be coming up in reviews. Also, some people were genuinely curious about what books I had. And remember that the stickers on the spines of the books simply mean I have not read them yet!
So yeah check it out and let me know what you think :)
See you soon!

Random Thoughts #1

I decided from time to time I'm going to do these Random Thoughts Posts, related to books because sometimes I just want to have a little discussion with you guys.
So I've been off Youtube from 48 days (I gave up Youtube for lent-I'm not religious I just did it as an experiment to see if I could because my friend was giving up Facebook) and at first it was really tough; no book reviews, music, and other skits that I like to watch. However, I was able to read a lot more and get a lot more work done because I didn't have this constant distraction. Anyways, so I've been catching up with my favorite Book-Tubers and for awhile I've been struggling with this idea of "Why don't I like the same books as most of these people?"
Most of the time I agree with them but it's books like The Hunger Games, Looking for Alaska, Vampire Diaries, just to name a few that I don't like that much, that everyone else seems to LOVE.
Then I kind of had an epiphany today which made me realize...why? Why do I care and why do I feel the need to associate myself with these people that I've never met, never will meet, and why do I have to be like everyone else? So what if I like mystery books and trashy teen chick lit novels, and old books like Jane Austen's novels and other classics. This defines me as a person and sets me apart from everyone else. Why should I group myself in with the masses of people that LOVE vampire books, while the only one's that I like are the Night World series by L.J.Smith.
It kind of made me realize that I don't need to fit in with these people. Isn't standing out a good thing? And the more people that stand out the better right? Society is all about promoting individualism, but most of the time people follow the status quo and don't differentiate themselves from others.
I think what I'm trying to say is I'm proud that I'm different and I'll continue reviewing the lesser known books in the hopes of maybe having someone else become interested in reading or being affected by literacy in SOME way; even it's a small contribution, it's MY contribution and that's all that matters. What do you think?
See you soon!
