Holy. Crap. What a fantastic book! (And a beautiful cover to pair it with) When I first started I didn't think I would like it because it felt sort of rushed for the first like quarter but in the end I though that was a good thing because it led to, not only, more character development later on, but also let the story move and flow faster.
The cover was what really drew me into this book, and once I started reading I couldn't stop! The plot never slowed down for a second and I kept wanting to find out more and more. So here's what happens:
Graylee and her twin Charlene are both witches (so is their mom and a few other people in the town, and they often meet to practice and master their magic) and the twins don't get along very well. Graylee feels that Charlene is annoying and over-dramatic and Charlene feels that their mother dotes on Graylee more than herself. Charlene is also one of the most popular girls at school while Graylee blends into the crowd.
Right from the start we learn that Charlene's boyfriend has broken up with her and she plans to get revenge on the girl that stole her boyfriend, Blake, away. Around the same time Graylee dies in her sleep very suddenly.
Graylee doesn't realize this and one day wakes up in Charlene's body, but then learns from her mom that Charlene is not gone; the sisters are stuck sharing the same body. Graylee gets to be present every other day. Seeing this struggle that Graylee has to overcome while being in Charlene's body and dealing with her "rules" was interesting to see. Even though they are twins they act very differently within their own bodies and that was cool to see the characters overcome.
This obviously leads to complications within the girls' lives (i.e. whose friends to hang out with, what clothes to wear) and all the while Graylee is trying to figure out how she died. Graylee enlists the help of Raj who is a warlock (or a "healer" as his mom prefers to call themselves) and so begins the journey of a very confusing, roller-coaster ride of a friendship. Raj may be harboring hidden feelings for Graylee while Graylee believes that he despises her and will only help her if she teaches him her invisibility spell.
The pair set out on the task of finding out how Graylee died and how she can live on her own, in either her own body, or a different girls' body.
This book was just so, so, so, GOOD! I like how the characters accepted the use of magic around their other friends who knew about it and could also perform magic, yet still managed to hide it from the general public. I also liked how real the story felt; as if this could happen to anyone. The settings could have been described a little better (but that's what imagination is for right?)
I know there are two more books after this one and I cannot wait to read them! (The rest of the covers are just as beautiful too) I am extremely impressed with this book and it is definitely classified as one of my all time favorites.

Sheltered by Debra Chapoton

Sheltered
Read a synopsis here!
Number of pages: 236
This was such a creepy book (but in a good way)! Sheltered is not only creepy, but it is a dark and disturbing novel that deals with many issues including schizophrenia, self-mutilation, family/home life issues, and a variety of other topics.
Basically, five teens are put together in this house organized by the "leader" Ben. Ben is one of the five teens and he makes sure that everything gets paid for and that the other kids do their fair share around the house. The rest of the teens start off by thinking that there is a Mrs. Peterson who is in charge of the house and just stays in her room all the time but in reality, Ben has made her up so the teens will continue living there without the bother of adult figures. The house is mainly a sanctuary for these lost teens.
Each teen is going through something pretty terrible and just needs a safe haven from the homes they come from and somehow, it's never explicitly stated in the novel, Ben finds them and recruits them to live in this house with him. Cori, is a very goth/punk girl who was somehow kicked out of her house and is possibly possessed by demons, Emily cuts herself as punishment for the things she does or does not do, Megan is fighting for custody of her son who is about a year old (Megan is 17), and Chuck/Adam is dealing with schizophrenia. Ben is also living here part-time to escape his abusive father, and alcoholic mother.
Out of all the characters I think I liked Ben and Megan the best because they were the most sane, the others often just plain creeped me out.
The house they are living in causes a lot of issues with the teens and many of them believe there is unfinished business within the house and that their is demons wandering around possessing some of the girls.
The story continues on with a bunch of different plots and there is a lot of stuff where the reader has to make conclusions on their own which was interesting at first but after awhile things just got to confusing. There was a lot of unanswered questions for me once I got to the very end. I also wished the story could be longer, because I didn't like the way it ended. More loose ends could have been tied up.
It was a good story, it could have been written a little more cohesively towards the end. I liked how the supernatural aspects were able to work so well with the real life issues these teens were having. And the characters were believable. Often I have a hard time identifying with characters who are going through SO much hardship, but this was written eloquently and flowed with the plot.
Also this is a great book to read during October or around the time of Halloween because it deals with the supernatural!

P.S. Huge thank you to Debra Chapoton for asking me to read and review this and for sending me a digital copy of it!

Painted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen

I was thoroughly disappointed by this book. So much that I couldn't even finish it. According to my Kindle, I got about 35% through before I said enough is enough.
Even though this is young adult fiction, I found it too unbelievable...or relatable. I thought the characters fell in love too quickly, there wasn't much of a set up for a back story (I would have loved to hear more about Eric and his mother's strained relationship and more about Psyche's life). The story was set up so quickly and in a way that just threw the reader into the next things that were happening. I felt that I read about a novels worth in one chapter and that there wasn't enough to provide for much of a background.
Many things weren't described fully enough too; for example, Eric's castle could have been given a chapters worth of descriptors, but instead was giving very few. I hardly know what Psyche herself looked like because there was few descriptors about her too.
Eric and Psyche's love (this isn't a spoiler, it says in the synopsis that they fall in love) was extremely hard for me to believe too. Eric was always saying that the mortals' world moved so quickly and that he didn't like it, yet he talks about marrying Psyche and taking her to his kingdom. That's a little fast for either world, if you ask me.
The plot itself wasn't going anywhere either for awhile. Even when things started to get "exciting" I couldn't get into the story. It was so dry. The premise of the story sounds amazing, but it wasn't executed well enough I believe.

Casey Barnes Eponymous by E.A. Rigg

Read a synopsis here!
Number of pages: 220
Wow, wow, wow! I literally JUST finished this book and I cannot express to you how much I LOVED it!!! (Although I am trying to express it with all the capitalization and exclamation points)
Casey Barnes Eponymous is not your typical music girl/band book. It's that and so much more. Casey is a witty and sarcastic sophomore who is cruelly dumped by her boyfriend, Alex, at the beginning of the school year. However, she wants to get Alex back and comes up with a plan to make a band and perform in the talent show so she can show him that there's so much more to her and that he's missing out. Casey has this picture-perfect view of Alex, but her brother Yull and some of her friends see him for what he really is; a player, and try to defer her plan to win Alex back. Bring in some boy rivalry, mixed feelings, and hilarious escapades with her best friend Leigh, and lot's of music playlists, and that's Casey Barnes Eponymous in a nutshell.
Throughout the whole book I was thinking how it felt like Casey was my best friend and was gossiping all the tales and adventures that she was going through, because that's how relatable she was. Usually I don't like books about girls who are musicians or who are in bands because I just can't relate to them, but Casey was different.
I loved all the different music references throughout the book. I have a very limited music library on my iPod with mainly two artists (one being Coldplay and the other...well, NOT Coldplay) So, this was a great way to introduce me to some new music (I'm actually listening to one of the songs referenced in the book, right now as I'm writing this!)
I thought the book was such a fun read and totally got me back into the school mood (since I'm starting again on Tuesday). I hope my year can be as adventurous and crazy as Casey's was. Do I wish there could be a sequel? Yes, just so I can read more about Casey, but otherwise the story ended perfectly.
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite books and, like I said before, I cannot stress how awesome this book was and how much I loved it!!! (More capitalization and exclamation points for emphasis)
Thank you E.A. Rigg for sending me a copy of this on my Kindle, it's definitely a book I will be reading again and again! And I also love the cover! It's so cute!
See you soon!

Diary of a Vampeen by Christin Lovell

Diary of a Vampeen
Read a synopsis here!
Number of pages: 270
So this was a free book that I found in the Amazon store for my Kindle and I had really high hopes for it. I really had hoped this ebook was going to be a quick short fun romance read about vampires but I only got through 63% of the book. (On Kindle ebooks, there isn't page numbers just percentages.)
I really tried to get through this book. I would put it down for awhile and then come back, but I just got more and more disinterested and I finally realized that I can't be wasting my time trying to read this when I have other books I need to read. Also, I didn't feel to bad about tossing this ebook it the electronic garbage because it was, after all, free.
A couple of reasons why I didn't like it:
The language. There wasn't cursing but the characters tried to use language that is apparently "cool" these days but it came off fake and I couldn't relate to it.
The characters themselves. I hated ALL of them!!! They didn't connect with me and they all had pesky habits that I could not stand.
The action. Wait. What action? This book could be 100 times better if the story was sped up, the action heightened, and a bunch of crap left out. I hated how this story dragged on and on.
So, this does not get a Paige-Turn for me. If any one's interested though I think it's a trilogy on the Kindle and the other books are $3.
See you soon!
